Meaning, not merch
I’M Kirsty. Self-taught, Berkshire-based, 28 years OF DRAWING and roughly one million coloured pencils deep. No art school. No permission. Just the icons that raised me, rebuilt one pixel at a time.
I am inspired by nostalgia. When drawing portraits, I choose subjects who were important to me growing up- whether that be a favourite musician, actors, actresses, authors or pop culture icons who were instrumental to me figuring out who I was or wanted to be. At its core there is longing, a longing to go back in time and an underlying sense of dreams that are now over. Nostalgia can be heart-breaking but it can also be comforting and I find myself drawn to that, it pulls me back every time I want to create something new.
I want people to look at my work and feel that same sense of nostalgia, whether they are comforted by this or saddened, it’s important to embrace it, our past has shaped us into who we are today, dreams fulfilled or not.
