Not sure which size? Most people choose the 16 × 20. It's the size where the pixels do what they're supposed to do- abstract up close, unmistakably her from across the room. The 8 × 10 is a smaller piece for a desk, a shelf or a hallway. The 24 × 30 is the one that owns the room, and only eight people will ever own it.

This pixel portrait of Marilyn Monroe comes from familiarity rather than reinterpretation. It's a face I've returned to for years, not to modernise or reinvent, but because certain images just stay with you.

The pixel format reduces detail while preserving recognition. What's lost in resolution is replaced by our memory of that face, sitting somewhere between distance and closeness, clarity and abstraction.
